Visitation on Thursday, January 9, 2025 will be from 4 pm to 8 pm at San Jose Funeral Home-East (10950 Pellicano Dr., El Paso, TX 79935). Rosary will begin at 7 pm.
The Funeral Mass will be at St. Stephen Catholic Church (1700 George Dieter Dr, El Paso, TX 79936) on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 1 pm.
Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery (5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, TX 79906) at 2:30 pm.
Adored Husband, Father, Tio, and Grandfather Alonzo P Garza, Jr. (Tata/Alonzcito), 82 passed away peacefully after a long-term battle with cancer on December 3, 2024.
Alonzo was born in El Paso, Texas on January 5, 1942, to Alonzo Cortesar Garza and Emila Ponce Garza. He married his loving wife Mary on November 24, 1965 in El Paso. They had two children, Enrique Alonzo Garza and Gilbert Garza.
Alonzo served in the US Navy as a helmsman and achieved the rank of Quarter Master 3rd Class. In 1962, Alonzo served on the USS Uvalde when the 2nd Navel Fleet was dispatched as a blockade and service support vessel during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Alonzo is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary and his parents Alonzo C. and Emila P. Garza – and his younger brother Luis Garza.
He is survived by his sons Enrique and Gilbert Garza. Grandchildren – Noah Alonzo Garza, Cristian Garza, Elissa Garza, Sasha Garza and Matthew Garza. And Step-Grandchildren – Brandon, Kyle, Trevor and Kaylynn.
The kind and loving Alonzo will be forever cherished by his family and friends. May he finally be at peace in the loving arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ and Virgin Mother Mary.
