A memorial mass will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark, on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, at 11:00 am. Pallbearers will be Ernie Cortez, Jacob Cortez, Michael Garcia, Victor Sandoval, Jr., Veronica S. Tyree, Lorena Sandoval Kroeger, and Ernesto Gamboa.
Sylvia Sandoval Cortez, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend went home to glory with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 13, 2024. A native and long-time resident of El Paso, she is survived by her husband of 42 years, Hernando “Ernie” Cortez, son Jacob Cortez, stepson Michael Garcia, brothers Victor Sandoval, Jr. (Winder, GA), Victor Sandoval, Jr. (Clovis, NM), Ernesto Gamboa, Omar Sandoval, and sisters Veronica S. Tyree and Lorena Sandoval Kroeger. She was preceded in glory by mother Margarita Gamboa, father Victor Sandoval, Sr., stepfather Carlos Gamboa, and brother Manuel Sandoval. Born on May 29, 1961, Sylvia was blessed with one son, one stepson, and five grandchildren. Sylvia and Ernie lived in Houston for 18 years before returning to El Paso. Sylvia worked in sales and administration for various companies in El Paso and Houston. She loved spiders, dancing, traveling, collecting magnets, and reading. She graduated from W.H. Burges High School in 1979 and attended EPCC. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Sylvia was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. We miss you dearly, “Babes,” “Mama,” “Baby,” and “Sister.” You touched us all with your deep love, compassion, quick wit, and overall enthusiasm for life.
