David Henry Harvey was born on April 21, 1949, in Los Angeles, California. In his youth he was greatly involved with the Boy Scouts with which he, his father, and his younger brother enjoyed many an adventure in the great outdoors. He fell in love with the peace of nature, hiking, setting up camp, and cooking over an open fire. He attended Chatsworth High School and graduated with honors in 1966 where he learned his love for playing various musical instruments, but especially brass and the violin. David attended West Point and went on to serve with the Army. He was called for the draft and then assigned to Frankfurt, Germany, where he worked as a dental technician. He was honorably discharged in 1977 and headed back to El Paso. David earned his degree from The University of Texas at El Paso in Mathematics. His teaching assignments that followed included years at Riverside and Cathedral High Schools, eventually landing him in his position as Lecturer and Director of Developmental Mathematics for 31 years back at UTEP. He was beloved by his fellow staff and students and known for his great sense of sarcastic humor. During his years with UTEP, David served various communities through the Catholic Campus Ministry. He enjoyed helping others, preparing meals and sharing stories, learning from peers and deep thinkers. David enjoyed the company of a variety of friends from all walks of life and various countries. He enjoyed reading and classical music, thoughtful conversations with fellow intellectuals with dry humor, adventures and road trips, especially anything out in nature, international films and silly television shows, musical and theatrical performances of a wide variety, and foods of many cultures. He truly lived and enjoyed all of the spices of life! David Harvey has joined his younger brother Philip and his parents Yvonne Link and Charles Harvey in the arms of God. He is survived by his Wife Dolores, his children Amy, Carter, Honor, and Jesse, his stepchildren Thomas and Angie, his nieces Danielle and Rachael, the mother of his children Carla, and a large assortment of fun-loving grandchildren from coast to coast. He is also remembered fondly by the many friends and loved ones he cultivated through his kindnesses and generosities in this lifetime. He was six foot seven, his light shined bright, his humor vast, his intellect immense, his spirit incredibly humble. David was love and he was loved very much so.
