TOLLIE MACK PADGETT, born in Loraine, Tx on August 20, 1944, to Mildred Odell Padgett and Jay William Padgett, lost his battle with complications from cancer on October 12, 2017. He is survived by his former wife, Elna Carole Padgett, and his two daughters, Tara Millicent Padgett-Dickey and Tonni Padgett, all of El Paso, Tx, as well as his three sisters, Charlotte Beth Iglehart of Fort Worth, Tx, Meredith Edwards of Colorado City, Tx, and Marsha Drummond of Loraine, Tx.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Tollie delighted in spending many long hours in study and research of the Bible, which he then enthusiastically shared with anyone who would listen. After graduating from the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead in New York in 1973, it was with great joy that he could serve as a missionary in Punta Arenas, Chile, S.A. until health problems later forced his return to El Paso.
Tollie was an avid read and a lover a poetry, had a ready sense of humor who delighted in puns and a play on words—qualities he later passed on to his daughters. Having lost his own father at the early age of 15, he was ever the champion of others in need or similar circumstances. Any who knew or worked with him either at Yellow Freight Trucking Co, or later at YISD Transportation Dept., knew him as a hardworking supervisor who was always ready to go the “extra mile” to solve problems or give needed assistance.
One of Tollie’s fondest dreams was to one day move to Alaska or serve as a missionary in Central America. It is his family’s belief that his firm faith and trust in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection of the dead to an earthly paradise (John 5:28,29) will soon be realized. Until then he will be greatly missed and remembered by all who loved and respected him.
