Nancy Onita was born on September 17, 1945, to Allen and Mary Hammock in Oklahoma. Nancy was later adopted by her stepfather Everette McConnell, and she had two brothers, Mike and Carl. Nancy attended schools in Albuquerque, graduating from Sandia High School in 1963. She married Dan Olivas, and three sons were born to them, Daniel, John, and Todd. After divorcing, she married Bruno Steinhilber of Costa Mesa, California, and two more sons, Eric and Rob, joined their family. After divorcing Bruno, Nancy lived in several locations, including Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas, where she married Eddie Burke. When the marriage ended, Nancy returned to Albuquerque and worked remotely for her son Todd’s court reporting company in California. She then married Richard Turner of El Paso, Texas; they later divorced. She continued working for Todd’s company as long as her health allowed.
Nancy found her greatest joy in her family, though they were scattered across the country and around the world. She especially treasured times when all five of her boys could be together. Nancy was a cancer survivor, and fought a long battle with lymphedema. Nancy faced her increasing disability with a positive attitude and with determination to stay active and independent. She relied on God’s strength every day and loved talking about her Lord Jesus and her future home in Heaven with Him. Nancy went Home to be with her Savior on June 6, 2022, at the age of 76.
Nancy is survived by her brothers Rev. Mike McConnell and wife Beth, of Green River, Wyoming; and Carl McConnell and wife Sarah, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; her sons Daniel Olivas and wife Susan, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; John Olivas and wife Patti, of Santa Teresa, New Mexico; Todd Olivas and wife Jennifer, of Yorba Linda, California; Eric Steinhilber and wife Sarah, of Costa Mesa, California; Rob Steinhilber and wife Becky, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; her nieces Amy (McConnell) Anderson and Krista (McConnell) Brown; her nephew Brett McConnell; and numerous other family members and friends.
An interment service will take place at Memorial Pines Cemetery, 3061 Memorial Pines Lane, Sunland Park, New Mexico at 12 o’clock noon on Sunday, October 2, 2022. Condolences can be sent to the family through John Olivas at 213 Desert Garden, Santa Teresa, NM 88008 or at [email protected]
