September 24, 1931 – March 23, 2022
Manuel L. Hernandez, age 90, passed away peacefully March 23, 2022 surrounded by his family. We rejoice that he is with his Lord and Savior. He was born September 24, 1931 to Sabino and Elisa Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rosendo, Ramon ‘Monchie’, Carlos, Juan ‘Johnny’, sister Maria “Cuca” Lopez and grandson Steven Michael Caro.
Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Alicia G. Hernandez, sons Manuel Jr. ‘Manny’ (Deborah), Xavier ‘Frank’ Hernandez, Bobby (Genevieve), Armando ‘Mando’ (Kim), Fred (Steve), and daughter Norma Valenzuela (Paul). He is also survived by his siblings, Carmen Gomez, Tony Hernandez, Dolores Hernandez and Ruben Hernandez. He was blessed to have 10 grandchildren (Marcie, Laura, Chris, Lauryne ‘Mokey’, Zach, Veronica, Josh, Dylan, Alicia, Andrew); and 17 great-grandchildren (Lorina, Charlotte, Atticus; Ella & Rudy; Zy; Clea; Olivia & Nicholas; Siegfried ‘Ziggy’; Kaleia & Malikai; Matthew, Amiah, & Layla; Apollo & Luna).
Manuel was a hard-working man who began work on the farm in west El Paso in his early years, then moving on to work in the cotton gins as he got older. He retired from the Texas Highway Department as a Foreman of the Ysleta District after 25 years of dedicated service. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his many skills with all of his family and each of his children. He was well respected and will be missed.
Rosary and viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 8:30 to 10:30 am, at San Jose Funeral Home, 10950 Pellicano; followed by a Mass at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 8011 Williamette Ave beginning at 11:30 am. Pallbearers are Fred Hernandez, Chris, Josh and Andrew Hernandez, Victor Moreno and Paul Riscossa.
