Lt. Raul Ruiz, Jr. “J.R.”
Passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, in Austin, Texas. J.R. was born in El Paso, Texas
on February 19, 1977. He loved life, family, and friends. In high school, he was called the M.O.D. “Minister of Defense” because he always looked out for his friends. In 1995 he graduated from Burges High School, attended UTEP and New Mexico State. For the last 15 years of his life he served with The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), he recently had held the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned at Travis State Jail.

J.R.’s favorite pastimes were attending ROCK CONCERTS along with his brother Eric Ruiz, cooking, especially pasta dishes, cheering for his favorite sports teams, the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and New York Yankees.

J.R. leaves countless loving, funny, and memorable memories. Left to cherish his memory are parents; Dolores Ruiz and Raul Ruiz, Sr., “favorite” brother; Eric Ruiz (Jessica Alejandro), sister; Brae Ruiz, beloved aunt; Connie Barajas, cousin; Alex Rey Barajas, and endeared girlfriend; Marcy Macias. Other survivors include dear family members, uncle, and family; Robert Barajas (Ada), Richard (Letty), Michael, Mark (Angelica), Isaiah, Mia Barajas, Cassandra Guerrero (Carlos), Nicholas Barajas, Ava Guererro and countless of dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Rd, El Paso, Texas, Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. Flowers are to be sent to San Jose Funeral Home-East, 10950 Pellicano Dr. El Paso, Texas, before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020.
