It is with great sorrow that our family shares that our mother, Josefina Benavides Rodriguez, was called to our Lord Tuesday Aug. 16, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. Josefina was born in 1923 in Lajitas, Texas. She grew up in a small Mexican town near the U.S.-Mexico border. She had three children with her first husband, Jose Diaz de Leon. After his death in an accident, she raised her three children until she met Adrian Rodriguez II in Chihuahua, Mexico. After their marriage, she had nine additional children in El Paso where they had settled.
Josefina was a very loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and wife. She was selfless and always put others ahead of herself. In addition, she was a highly skilled seamstress and fashioned clothes not only for her family, but also for others. It is not unusual to run into someone who had her wedding dress or other clothing articles made by her. She loved attending family events and preparing delicious meals for her children. Mother was always wise and discerning and imparted that wisdom to her family. Even now, when a circumstance comes up, it is common to apply one of her sayings to the resolution. She adored her entire family and her friends and worked to instill good values in her children.
Josefina B. Rodriguez is survived by 11 children: Maria de Jesus Diaz, Castulo Diaz de Leon, Adrian Rodriguez III, Alfredo Rodriguez, Raul Rodriguez, Hector Rodriguez, Gloria Mendez, Fernando Rodriguez, Armando Rodriguez, Armida Calzada, and George Rodriguez. She also is also survived by scores of grand and great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her mother, Angelita Benavides, her father, Jesus Benavides, her first and second husband, a son, Jose Diaz de Leon, and 8 siblings. Madrecita,…we are comforted by the thought that you are in the loving arms of our Lord. We miss you immensely, but you are…and always will be…in our hearts.
A public viewing and will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.Tues. Aug. 23, 2022 at San Jose Funeral Home, 10950 Pellicano. A rosary will follow at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place Wed. Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church with interment at Mt Carmel Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
