Humberto Raul Saenz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the age of 67. He fought a brave battle with renal and lymphoma cancer that is honorable and will always be remembered.

Humbert’s life was the greatest reflection of selflessness, strength, and humility through his love for his family and friends. Throughout his life Humbert was known for his generosity and his ability to put the needs of others before his own. His bright smile and welcoming personality made anyone he encountered feel like family. He was the perfect example of what it means to be a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and brother. During his life he taught us that the simplest things in life can be what makes us the happiest. Bestowing upon us all the gift of his faith, his continuous positive attitude was admired and will be remembered by all. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Humbert was born on August 5, 1955, in El Paso, Texas to Raul and Ofelia Saenz. As the eldest son, Humbert took on the role of protector and caregiver for his other siblings. He embraced this role to help guide and set a positive example for the rest of his siblings. Humbert’s dedication to his family is a testament to his strong character and selfless nature. He was truly the most dependable and loving brother. Humbert was preceded in death by his brother David Saenz and leaves behind his siblings Norma, Berta, Yolie, Irma, Sylvia and Joe. In his youth, he attended Guardian Angel Catholic School, Lincoln Elementary school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1973. Humberto graduated with a bachelor’s in education from the University of El Paso in 1977.

Humberto and Margarita were married December 26, 1979, when they eloped to the courthouse in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He devoted the rest of his life to her in every imaginable way. After 43 years of civil marriage, they were able to religiously perform their own validation of marriage vows on June 19, 2021, at Guardian Angel Catholic church in front of friends and family.

Humbert was a dedicated educator who taught for 29 years for El Paso Independent School District at Lamar Elementary as a bilingual teacher. He did this while simultaneously working at El Paso Community College for an additional 39 years as an adjunct faculty member with the International English Language Program at the Valle Verde Campus. In true Humbert fashion, he was deeply committed to his students, always going above and beyond to help them succeed. His natural talent for connecting with students instilled in them a love for learning that inspired countless young minds. He was a true educator in every sense of the word, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Margarita Saenz, his daughter Karen and stepdaughters Debbie and Lucy. Humberto will forever be remembered as grandpa to his grandchildren as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and godchildren. We will always cherish the memories we have of Humbert and hold him close to our hearts.
