El Paso, Texas. Hortencia E. Montes, 99, was welcomed to heaven on Thursday July 21, 2022. She was 18 days short of celebrating her 100th birthday. Hortencia was born in El Paso, Texas on August 8, 1922 to Ramon and Inez Esparza. Hortencia graduated from Guardian Angel Catholic School. She was an excellent pianist and her brother Jose (Pepe) played the violin. Together they were asked to play at school functions as well at weddings. She attended the Technical Vocational School to take accounting and sewing. She became an excellent seamstress and would sew for her grandchildren.
As luck would have it that is where she met the love of her life, her loving husband Arturo of 66 years. Hortencia was preceded in death by her husband Arturo Montes, her parents Ramon and Inez Esparza, daughters Emma Tapia and Blanca Diaz, granddaughter Yvonne Meadows, siblings Roberto, Adelia, Elvia, Ramon, Ofelia, Jose (Pepe), Maria Margarita. She is survived by her children Lupe Gonzalez (Joe) of Leander, Texas, Ramon (Doris), Martha Alarcon (Charles) of Las Cruces, N.M., Edna Rapp (Gary), Ralph Jose Montes and 19 children, 31 great-children, 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Funeral Home, 10950 Pellicano Dr. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 4. 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St Raphael Church, 2301 Zanzibar Rd. Followed by interment at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Raymond Montes, Gary Rapp, Stephen Rapp, Kyle Walker, Carlos Esparza, Ethan Calleros.

Masks are requested for the rosary, church service and at Ft. Bliss cemetery.
