Guillermo F. Ortiz Jr, better known as “Willie” to family and friends went home to the Lord on June 13, 2022 at the age of 88. Willie was born in San Antonio, Tx on August 6, 1933 and was a long time resident of Amarillo, Tx and El Paso, Tx. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home he married Elodia “Gloria” Villarreal and together they were blessed with six children. He was married to Gloria until her passing in 1994.
Willie started his 40 year career as an auto mechanic in Amarillo, Tx and was known by many across the state and beyond as the best Mercedes and foreign car technician around receiving many awards for his years of work. He was also known as a practical joker and was feisty as ever until his passing. He was a good man, the definition of a hard worker, devoted husband, and an amazing father.
Willie is survived by his current wife and loving caregiver Martha Ortiz, five daughters, Patsie Brinkley and husband Rod, Carrie Hensley and husband Jack, Jaynie Sillivent and husband Wade, Judie Moore and husband Dale, Laurie Dudding and husband David, one son Willie Gilbert and wife Roberta, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by a brother, Raymundo F. Federico and wife Gloria. Willie was like a father to his current wife’s children George and wife Luz and Maruicio and wife Cynthia.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Gloria of 40 years, his parents Guillermo Ortiz Sr. and Ysidra Ortiz, brothers Ricardo F. Ortiz, Salvador Ortiz and sister Elva Robledo, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Willie’s life will be held at San Jose Funeral home 10950 Pellicano Dr., El Paso, Tx on Friday, June 24th. Public visitation will be held from 4:00 PM -6:30 PM followed by the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM.
