Elvia Contreras, 84, of El Paso, Texas, was called back to the Lord on the 20th of October, 2023.

Elvia was born on the 21st of August, 1939 in Colotlan, Jalisco, where she spent part of her childhood before moving to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. She moved to El Paso in the 1960s and sponsored her siblings and her mother for immigration into the United States. Elvia was a homemaker and the bookkeeper for her late husband’s typewriter business.

Elvia is preceded in death by her father Pilar Lopez and mother, Josefina Ramos de Lopez, her brothers Jose Lopez and Francisco Lopez, her daughter, Alma Castillo, her granddaughter, Nicole Contreras, and her loving husband, Daniel Contreras. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Marquez and Araceli Corona and her sons, Daniel Contreras, Sergio Contreras, Bardo Contreras, and Christopher Contreras as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a public viewing to honor Elvia Contreras on Thursday, October 26th, 2023, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Funeral Home East,10950 Pellicano Dr., 79935. Additional viewing will take place on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church located at 1050 N. Clark Dr., 79905. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetary at 401 S. Zaragosa Rd., 79917.
