Amalia Acosta Gutierrez passed away Monday, August 12, 2019, at the age of 89. She died peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents Ascension Acosta and Esperanza Acosta Saenz; her siblings – Belen, Esther, Benjamin, Evangelina, Ascencion and Ruben.

She leaves her son Gabriel Gutierrez Jr.; her daughter Rosa Isela Solis and husband George, her grandchildren – Roxanne, Gabriel II, Amalia, Karina, Marisa, Monique and Gabriel III, 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters Emma Acosta, Esperanza Vigliante and Ofelia Vela.

Born in Cd. Juarez Chihuahua, November 17, 1929, she was 1 of 10 children. She attended Lydia Patterson School and met a young handsome cab driver – Gabriel Gutierrez at the age of 18. They married and raised a son Gabriel and a daughter Rosa Isela whom they loved unconditionally. They moved to El Paso, Texas in 1954 where they built a loving home. Amalia worked many years at Hortex Manufacturing where she was promoted to supervisor. She later moved back to Cd. Juarez and married Felipe Escobedo. After his death, she moved back to El Paso to live with her daughter.

Amalia was known as the matriarch of the family. Her legacy is her great work ethic, her strength and the love for her family. She was a phenomenal woman!

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm at San Jose Funeral Home-East. Funeral mass Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date.
